The Last Song
Miley Cyrus shines as the star of this heartwarming coming-of-age movie that will strike your emotional chords. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song follows Ronnie and her estranged father as he tries to restore the loving relationship they once had. But reconnecting with his rebellious daughter isn’t easy, so he chooses the one thing they still have in common — music. Rated PG. Genre: Drama, Romance.
I figured this would be a cool movie to recommend, particularly for kids, considering the huge following that Miley Cyrus has. Has anyone read any other Nicholas Sparks books? My mother is a big fan. Not really my cup of tea, but hey, to each his/her own.
If you’re a fan of Cyrus or Sparks, check it out this week. The closest Redbox kiosks to Vista Ridge are at McDonald’s (7257 N Loop 1604), HEB (24165 W Interstate 10 Ste 300) and Exxon Mobile (13687 W Interstate 10).

Angelina Jolie as Jane Bond

I read that when Angelina Jolie was filming Salt, she performed all of her stunts and was once rushed to the hospital after sustaining a minor head injury. You have to respect that type of dedication. She’s always been great in action movies. Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Wanted were all great. I they ever did a female version of the James Bond/007 series, she’d be it. I can see it now…Jane Bond. Remember where you heard the idea first, folks. LOL.
In any case, Salt opens up in theatres around the nation this weekend. It will be interesting to see how it does in the box office as it goes up agains the second weekend of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Inception. I still haven’t seen that yet, but I’m planning on it tonight. It has received GREAT reviews.
If you’re in movie mode like I am, then you can probably use these links to showtimes for theatres in San Antonio near Vista Ridge: Santikos Palladium IMAX, AMC Huebner Oaks 24. If you make it to one (or both) of the movies, stop back and let us know what you think about it!

Shutter Island
When U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels arrives at the asylum for the criminally insane on Shutter Island, what starts as a routine investigation quickly takes a sinister turn. As the investigation unfolds and Teddy uncovers more shocking and terrifying truths about the island, he learns there are some places that never let you go. (Rated R)
The previews for the film aren’t completely accurate. It was promoted as a “scary movie”, yet I assure you that you will not put it in that category. This is nothing less than a top-notch suspense-thriller and director Martin Scorcese is too much a master at his craft to waste his time looking for cheap thrills. The movie has a dark, crisp visual style. Scorcese directed this for an intelligent audience and although the ending takes up nearly half the film, it is clever. I’m sure most will figure it out but the scenes are still worth watching. Thumbs up!

Break a leg, Jackie Chan! Literally!

Did you know that in the 100 plus movies that actor Jackie Chan has worked on, he has injured just about every part of his body! He has lost teeth, broken his nose, cracked his sternum and even had a brain hemorrhage. Jeesh…I guess that’s why actors make the big bucks!
Anyone planning on catching The Karate Kid this weekend. It stars Chan and Jaden Smith. See the trailer below. You may have heard of Jaden’s parents – Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Although he hasn’t broken any bones like Jackie (I don’t think), I’m sure they must still be proud!

Attention Shrek fans:
As you probably know, Shrek 3: Forever After hits the theaters this weekend. So what exactly is the big deal about the little green creature? Honestly, I don’t know much about Shrek other than that it’s about a cartoon ogre. But my niece and nephew swear that its one of the best movie franchises ever. They say that its even better than the Star Wars triology. But they’re only kids…what do they know. In any case, check out the trailer and let me know what you think!
